Academy of American Poets website

Launched at the same time as the new identity, the AAP’s website takes advantage of a contemporary restoration of W. A. Dwiggins’ Electra, a typeface long associated with American arts and letters.

With a database of nearly 10,000 poems and related information, audio and video readings, and archival photography, the site plays host to the Academy’s National Poetry Month each April, along with its major prize announcements in the spring and fall. Its card-based interface is fully responsive and allows for integration with SoundCloud for audio, Google Maps for location listings, EventBrite for calendars and ticketing, and much more. The site conveys a position that poetry is a contemporary and highly mobile art form, allowing not just easy reading of poems on the go, but distributed embedding of poems by users on almost any social network or webpage with formatting and typography intact.
