M+ is a public museum in West Kowloon focused on contemporary art, architecture, and design. The exhibition, Building M+: The Museum and Architecture Collection was the institution’s first major architecture exhibition, and featured an in-depth examination of the museum’s architectural competition process, including the winning design by Herzog & de Meuron, as well as more than 200 objects from M+’s architectural holdings.
Designed in collaboration with Skew Collective, the exhibition uses a highly rational typographic structure implemented across the “lantern” displays which anchor each of the exhibition’s five thematically organized spaces. The stripped down and monochromatic gray color scheme was designed in striking contrast to the colorful dynamism of the identity and print materials. Throughout the exhibition visitors are encourage to collect postcards depicting objects from the show, which can be collected and stored in a specially designed exhibition brochure.
