Commercial Type website

Founded in 2004 by Paul Barnes and Christian Schwartz, Commercial Type is an award-winning type foundry based in New York and London. The company publishes a wide range of retail fonts, and has developed custom typefaces in collaboration with Project Projects, as well as with publications such as The Guardian, Bloomberg Businessweek, and The New York Times.

Designed by Project Projects and developed by GrayBits, the Commercial Type website is designed with the needs of a new generation of website and app designers in mind. Each individual typeface in Commercial Type’s extensive type catalog is initially displayed at its intended scale of use, but can also be tested in a wide range of languages and sizes through an embedded CSS editor. On the homepage a continually generating “type waterfall” also functions as a newsfeed, showcasing recent news and other updates, while an innovative “Typelist” function (inspired by music streaming services) allows users to create a kind of “playlist” and share groups of typefaces for different projects.
