Eyebeam’s graphic identity presents a dynamically generated, ever-changing system that reflects the organization’s multivalent mission of openness and radical innovation. Moving beyond a static, immutable institutional identity, each letter of the custom logotype interacts with a specific real-time variable: the time of day, number of Eyebeam alumni, Mars weather conditions, lines of code released by Eyebeam, and more. Set in Eyebeam Demi Bold, each letterform contains elements which become more dense, enlarge, degrade, or shift as the amount of corresponding data oscillates over time.
Each time the logo is generated for a given graphic application, a snapshot of these data manifests in a set of unique letterforms. The aggregate of letters is always up to date, representing the changing factors that comprise Eyebeam, while suggesting larger global questions that are constantly in flux. Placed and shared on the open source code repository site, GitHub, each letterform will remain open to future changes by the Eyebeam community—making the system a meta-identity that truly describes its own generation and regeneration.
