Weather Permitting: 9th Bienal do Mercosul identity

Curated by Sofía Hernández Chong Cuy, the 9th Bienal do Mercosul (Brazil) gathered artists whose work considers ideas of atmospheres (meteorological, psychological, economic) as a way of understanding social and political climates. Featuring projects by more than sixty artists, the Bienal comprised three main components: a multi-venue exhibition of contemporary art, a discussion and publication series, and an arts pedagogy program.

The cornerstone of the Bienal’s visual identity is a custom typeface, titled Porto Alegre, which pairs a modernist sans serif with large glyphs derived from early meteorological documents.
